Terms of service

What you're agreeing to, in plain English.

These terms cover the directory at vetverified.com and the practice platform behind it. They are written for the people who actually use Vet Verified, not for an army of lawyers. If something here doesn't read clearly, write to us and we'll fix it.

The short version.

The five sentences below capture the spirit of the rest of the page. The detail follows.

Vet Verified is a directory and a practice platform. By using either, you're agreeing to these terms in good faith, on a UK contract governed by the law of England and Wales.

Pet owners can use the directory free of charge. Practices pay a subscription to be verified, which covers the cross-checking, the listing, and annual re-verification. A separate practice platform, covering listing management, replies to reviews, online booking and messaging, is offered to verified practices on its own subscription. The verified mark itself is earned by meeting the criteria, not bought.

We do our best to keep the listings accurate, but Vet Verified is a directory, not a practice. We don't give veterinary advice. In an emergency, ring a vet, or, if your pet is in immediate distress, the nearest open practice or your usual one's out-of-hours line.

For pet owners.

Four things to know if you're using Vet Verified to find a practice. None of them require an account.

  1. 01

Free to use, free to leave.

Browsing the directory, reading articles, and looking up a practice are all free. You can use Vet Verified anonymously and you don't have to make an account to do anything on the public side.

  2. 02

Listings are best effort, not gospel.

We work hard to keep practice details accurate, drawing on RCVS registers, awarding bodies, and the practices themselves. Things change. If a practice's hours, address, or accreditations look wrong, please tell us so we can fix it. Verified listings are owned by the practice; unclaimed listings are our best public-record snapshot.

  3. 03

    We're a directory, not a vet.

Nothing on Vet Verified is veterinary advice. The articles in the knowledge base are general background, written carefully, but they are not a substitute for a consult with a clinician who has met your pet. If your pet is unwell, ring a practice. In an emergency, ring the nearest open practice or your own practice's out-of-hours line.

  4. 04

    Booking happens at the practice.

When you contact a practice through Vet Verified, you're contacting the practice. The appointment, the fees, the treatment, and the relationship are all between you and them. Vet Verified is not a party to that arrangement and doesn't charge you for it.

For practices.

The terms that apply once you've claimed your listing or signed up for a paid plan. Written for a busy practice manager, not a procurement team.

  1. 01

    Claiming a listing.

A practice can claim its own listing free of charge. We'll ask for proof that the named contact is authorised to act for the practice. Once verified, the listing is owned by the practice and edits sit behind your login.

  2. 02

    Accuracy is on the practice.

Once a listing is verified, the practice is responsible for keeping its information current: opening hours, team, services, accreditations. We'll re-check the credentials on file every twelve months by hand, and email you first if anything has lapsed, before changing what shows publicly.

  3. 03

    The verified mark.

The verification mark is awarded to a practice that meets the verification criteria published on the Become Verified page. There's a fee for the verification process itself, but the mark cannot be bought without meeting the criteria, and it is never given to or withheld from a practice on the basis of advertising spend. We may withdraw the mark, with notice and an explanation, if the underlying credentials lapse, the listing is found to be materially inaccurate, or the practice is no longer trading.

  4. 04

    Content rights.

Photos, copy, and other content uploaded by a practice remain owned by the practice. By publishing them on Vet Verified you grant us a non-exclusive licence to host and display that content on the platform for as long as the listing is live, and for thirty days after closure for back-up integrity. We don't reuse practice content in marketing without asking first.

  5. 05

    Suspension & removal.

We may suspend a listing or close an account if a practice misrepresents its credentials, attempts to gain or game verification fraudulently, abuses team members at Vet Verified or other practices, or breaches these terms in a material way. We'll explain the reason in writing and give you a chance to put it right unless we genuinely cannot for legal or safety reasons.

The rules of the road.

The legal scaffolding common to most platforms, written as plainly as we can manage. None of it is unusual; we're not trying to slip anything past anyone.

Acceptable use.
Don't use Vet Verified to harass anyone, post things you don't have the rights to, scrape the directory at scale, or impersonate a practice you don't run. Don't use it for anything illegal under UK law.
Automated access.
Search engines indexing the public site are welcome. Bulk scraping for commercial use is not. If you'd like programmatic access to listing data, write to us. We may have an API or a feed that fits, on terms we can both live with.
Intellectual property.
The Vet Verified name, the verification mark, the design system, and the editorial content on the site are ours. The practice content uploaded by practices belongs to those practices. Public-register data belongs to the awarding bodies. Don't copy ours without asking; we won't copy yours.
Third-party content.
Where we link to a practice's website, an awarding body, or another third-party resource, we don't control what's on the other end. Those sites have their own terms and we're not responsible for their content.
No warranty, fair limitation.
Vet Verified is provided as-is. We don't warrant that the directory will be uninterrupted, error-free, or perfectly current. To the fullest extent allowed under UK law, our liability for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the fees you've paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred pounds if you haven't paid anything. We don't try to limit liability for fraud, death, or personal injury caused by our negligence; those exclusions wouldn't be enforceable and we wouldn't want them anyway.
Indemnity.
If a third party brings a claim against us because of content you've published on the platform or your use of the service in breach of these terms, you'll cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it. We will tell you about the claim promptly and let you take a view on how to handle it.

Billing & cancellation, for practices.

Paid plans for the practice platform are billed annually.

The fees, the inclusions, and any free trial that applies are set out on the Become Verified page at the time you sign up. Prices are quoted in pounds sterling and exclude VAT, which is added at the prevailing UK rate where applicable. We may change prices for new sign-ups at any time. For existing practices, we'll give at least sixty days' notice before any price increase takes effect, and you can cancel without penalty in that window.

You can cancel a paid plan at any time from the dashboard or by writing to support. Annual plans auto-renew at the end of each twelve-month term; we email you in good time before renewal so you can cancel beforehand if you'd rather not continue. Annual plans aren't refunded after the first thirty days. If we ever fail to deliver the platform for a sustained period that's our fault, we'll credit or refund the affected days fairly, without a fight.

On cancellation, we keep the practice's data on file for ninety days in case you'd like to reactivate, and then delete it in line with the privacy policy. The unclaimed listing, drawn from public registers, remains in the directory, as it would have done if the practice had never claimed it.

Governing law & disputes.

UK contract, UK courts. We'd much rather sort anything out by email first.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them, except where statutory consumer rights give a UK consumer the right to bring a claim in their local courts; those rights are unaffected.

Before taking any of that anywhere near a court, please write to us. The vast majority of disputes we've seen are misunderstandings that a careful email resolves the same week. We'll do our best to be the same on the receiving end.

Changes, and how to get in touch.

When these terms change, the date at the top changes too. Material changes are explained in plain English and, for practices on a paid plan, emailed to you before they take effect.

Vet Verified is a trading name of Yellow Flag Ltd, the company that runs this directory, registered in England and Wales. Our registered office and company number are available on request.

For anything to do with these terms, or with how we handle your data, write to support@vetverified.com. A real person reads every email, and we reply, usually within two working days.

If something on this page doesn't read fairly, tell us. We'll fix it.
