About us
Vet Verified exists for one quiet reason.
Most UK veterinary practices provide excellent care, but pet owners can struggle to know which practice is right for them or offers good value. Vet Verified bridges that gap by helping pet owners find trusted practices while giving veterinary teams a place to showcase the care, expertise, and services they provide.
We started where most owners start.
A worried weeknight, a phone in one hand, a pet on the sofa, and not enough time to make a confident choice.
The UK has more than five thousand veterinary practices, run by careful people doing serious work. Most of them are invisible to the pet owners who need them most, because the surfaces in between are broken. Lead-generation directories sell the top of the page to whoever can pay a premium price. Searching individual practice websites can be time consuming for pet owners trying to find a match. The accreditations, facilities and services a practice has invested in and earned aren't always front and centre in search results.
Vet Verified is the platform we needed when we were searching for our perfect veterinary practice. Verification is earned by meeting a clear set of criteria, not bought by the highest bidder. Practice credentials sit clearly on the listing page, in language a pet owner can understand. A worried owner can easily scan and compare practices to make a confident choice.
What “verified” means, here.
The Verification tick on a practice's listing is not simply a stamp practices can buy. It shows they have met three independent criteria, and we only award it once all three hold.
-
01
We start with the public registers.
Every Verified listing is cross-checked against the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons' public register. The practice has to be a current, registered UK practice before it can receive verification.
-
02
We showcase Practice Accreditations in plain English.
The accreditations a practice has earned, translated into a simple sentence that pet owners can understand.
-
03
We hand the listing to a real person at the practice.
The strongest signal of the three. Verified listings are owned by a named person at the practice. They are responsible for keeping their data current and any correspondence is sent directly to the practice.
A small team, building this in the open.
No marketing department. No call centre. The same handful of people who wrote this page also wrote the verification pipeline behind it.
Vet Verified was founded by a small UK-based team. Philip is a designer and engineer with more than 16 years of experience building business and consumer products used by millions of people. Joanne has spent her career in project management, helping large organisations turn complex technical information into clear, accessible experiences for customers.
We started Vet Verified after our Hahn’s Macaw parrot, Bobby, became ill and we needed to find an avian specialist vet to support his diagnosis and long-term treatment.
As pet owners, we found it difficult to understand which practices had the right expertise and credentials. We’re not veterinarians, and we’re not trying to replace professional advice, but we believe trusted information should be easier to access. Vet Verified brings together recognised public registers, accreditations, and awarding bodies into a format that helps pet owners make informed decisions with confidence.
What we don't do.
Part of the value of Vet Verified is in what we don't do. These are the lines we don't cross.
-
We don't sell the top of the search page.
Verified practices rank above unclaimed listings because practice ownership increases the reliability of the data. That is the only ordering rule. There is no “featured” tier and no paid placement.
-
We don't run advertising on practice profiles.
No competitor ads will appear under a practice's listing, no banners, no “people also looked at” redirects to the highest bidder.
-
We don't sell the Verification tick.
There is a fee for the verification process, which covers checks and account support. However, the verification tick cannot be attained by a practice unless it can demonstrate the required criteria.
-
We don't sell pet owner data to practices.
What practices a person has looked at is their business, not ours.
-
We don't auto-renew a practice's verification.
We check each practice's credentials every year, by hand. If something has lapsed we will email the practice first, with time to renew, before anything changes on the public listing.
Where we're headed.
Three quiet directions over the next twelve months. None of this is a roadmap; it's the shape of the work.
-
01
The directory, complete.
We're working through the UK's RCVS registrations so every practice in the country has a baseline listing, ready for a practice to claim.
-
02
The practice dashboard, in the open.
One login that lets a Verified practices run their listing as a marketing surface. A user friendly system allowing practice owners to instantly update their listing details and respond to client correspondence.
-
03
Reviews you can trust.
Moderated and checked for authenticity, with a reply from someone at the practice. The social signal pet owners look for, kept honest.
